Title: Unknown beeping - dashes on 7949.5 khz
Post by: Barycenter on December 19, 2022, 0015 UTC
I've been hearing beeps/dashes in single and doubles around 7950 khz every 2.5 seconds. Anyone know what these are?

Update: seems to have stopped at 00:30. The signal did this before and started up again.

02:00 UTC - Nothing heard from my location.

For your future posts, if you could add the time and date in UTC format of reception that would be of great help. There are people on this board from all over the world, different time zones and crossing international date lines.

There is a formal posting style for the subject line in some of the areas of the board which I choose to apply universally for consistency. That is:

<Station> <Frequency> <Mode> <Time> UTC <Date>

Example: ASCOT 6695 11175 USB 2117 UTC 18 DEC 2022
In the above, the station is ASCOT 6695 which was heard on 11175 kHz in USB mode at 21:17 UTC on 18 December 2022.

Welcome to the HFU and enjoy all that the board has to offer.

I think 7951 is actually where it's at. Lower Side Band. 0451 UTC.

interesting find!

By the way, if I hear something and post within minutes the forum time stamp s already in UTC  (most beacons are heard in CW mode).

Such as this message's timestamp in the header is  December 19, 2022, 0427 UTC

If my intercept is not "real time" then I do add in the date and time

Another thing that is super helpful is to have an idea of where you heard things and what sort f receiver and antenna. If I use a remote SDR I'll name it.

For one, I skim multiple boards / sources of information using an RSS feed reader. This method is far more efficient than having to read individual messages across different platforms. For example, I can see all of the posts across the entire HFU in about 30 seconds. Having a good consistent subject line really helps.

If anyone is interested, I use QuiteRSS: http://quiterss.org/ (http://quiterss.org/) It is free and available for various OS.

Any more heard of this signal? I'm more interested in hearing new beacons than how your posts are formatted, lol.
