121  Loggings / HF Beacons / Re: WW (Wild West) are you up to the challenge on: October 04, 2009, 0230 UTC
well golly gee as Gomer Pyle would have put it. I finally heard the infamous "WW" this evening.
It was popping its head in and out of the noise here in Harrisburg at about 0225z.

Pretty good trip for that little peanut whistle.

122  Loggings / HF Beacons / Re: New Dasher Testing on: September 29, 2009, 0005 UTC
Hi. just sat down at the receiver a few minutes ago and started listening. It was on 12889.80 from yesterday.
I heard a whoop signal at 12889.950 audible about the noise tonight. It rides in and out of the noise right now, by the way the time is 0050z 09/29/09. The dash count is right so this must be the place.

Hi Tube''  no this isn't OTHR, I know what that sounds like. I just turned the radio on (1238z) and it's on very weak now. Well I've got places to go and things to do, so the wife says so I be back later and see what this may turn out to be.

124  Loggings / HF Beacons / beacon like signal on 7999khz on: September 11, 2009, 0246 UTC
Hi all, just tuning thru the 8mhz area and came across a a very strong signal on 7999khz usb.
It was sending .5 second pulses with about .4 second spacing. It was peaking about s8 most of the time.
It just stopped at 0239z, I've been sitting here waiting but have heard nothing else.
Has anyone else heard something similar to this on the frequency before??

Thanks
Chuck

0300z  the signal just came back up, started with a steady tone then into the pulses.. still very strong..

125  Loggings / HF Beacons / beacons heard tonight on: September 06, 2009, 0405 UTC
evening all, this is what I heard this evening. Prop has really been bad lately.
8497.70    pike 26 weak
8211.840  OR  reasonably good signal tonight
8003.35    pike jr usual big signal here
6626.150  ditter   weak
no Florida beacons the past couple of days, did they loose the sunlight down there??
Last night no beacons heard from the west but wwvh was audible on 5 mhz under wwv.
on 10 mhz wwvh was the same signal strength as wwv.  go figure...
noise levels are low but no signals storms starting to move up the coast and from the midwest so
the static is starting to build.

have a  great holiday everyone...

126  Loggings / HF Beacons / Co this am on: August 23, 2009, 1439 UTC
Hi all, just jumped in for a quick listening session at 1415z.
Tuned up to CO and using argo saw it was up at 11003.110 khz approx.
It has a very chirpy sound and being rather weak had a little trouble copying it but did get the ID and a couple other bits and pieces.

128  Loggings / HF Beacons / "S" beacon DX on: August 19, 2009, 0034 UTC
Hi all, just reading the udxf mail list and came across this.
> 8000.3 --- : unid channel marker 05:41 A1A/CW Channel marker 140 mS puls
> followed by 9 short 10 mS pulses every 40 mS (16 Aug)(PPA)

There is a pirate CW marker QRPP beacon in the on that channel
>S 8000.4 kHz 300Mw dipole solar daylight/7
see:
http://highfrequencybeaconsociety.bravehost.com/index.html
I'm not sure about the format, but I think it transmits a single morse
letter S ??
maybe you were lucky ??
73, Tom

this was copied in Germany by a guy named Pete.

pretty good miles per watt.

129  Loggings / HF Beacons / Re: Echo on: August 07, 2009, 0207 UTC
HI all, I have the dasher on 10236.90 khz here is Harrisburg tonight. It has a very good signal at this time.
Bill I see that you are hearing it at .700, hummm that's some doppler shift across the country.
It's been kinda noisy around here the past week or so, hopefully the noise quiets down some what.

11002.53    rather strong tonight  no secret messages tonight
8003.50  good signal also
5157.60  blinky  excellent signal in here from Florida
8497.60  in and out of the noise and strong ale signals

still haven't heard the "F" beacon yet and the "sputnick" out of West Virginia.

Bill, what beacons did you take down a few weeks ago?
I didn't update my list.

one of these days I'll have to get organized but then it wouldn't be any fun......
131  Loggings / HF Beacons / "CO' on: July 20, 2009, 0156 UTC

132  Loggings / HF Beacons / Re: Pike 26 on: July 10, 2009, 1408 UTC
HI, heard both beacons last night. They were both very strong here well above the noise level.
It's strange that I can hear Pike 26 so well when I never heard the other one from the same location.
(the mcw one) on 7998khz.
also heard here last night.
10236.9  dasher
5157.58   blinky
4096.6  a dasher, rather weak. strange but didn't hear any of the others from that area.

133  Loggings / HF Beacons / Re: BEACONS HEARD TONIGHT on: July 07, 2009, 2349 UTC
on the 8260 freq, I will have to make a recording because the only work I understand is "over" at the end and it has a very heavy accent.
it's now 2349z 07/07/09 and the freq is quiet right now so I will listen on 61 to see if I can hear the beacon.

134  Loggings / HF Beacons / BEACONS HEARD TONIGHT on: July 07, 2009, 0117 UTC
Hi all, finally got back in the saddle again for  a change.
High static levels tonight.
5157.60    blinky (dasher)  good signal here
10236.90  dasher    very strong tonight
10240.0   something in there but just can't make it out.
8003.90   dasher  pike Jr.  only western beacon that I can hear tonight.

the new Canadian beacon not heard here, have a very strong usb signal on 8260khz repeating the same thing over and over (gotta be a machine).
not able to hear much of anything to the west (beacon wise) for sometime. Pike jr is the only one.
not even hearing the okie's tonight. but hearing some western stations on 30 meter psk with good signals.

oh well at least I can blame this on sunspots.
