WOR 710 AM 1986 GAME 6 WORLD SERIES REBROADCAST

WOR 710 AM in New York City has announced they will rebroadcast Game 6 of the 1986 World Series (Mets/Red Sox) on May 26, 2016 at 2300z.  Unfortunately, WOR's reception is barely outside the five boroughs on most occasions.  The odd part here is that the game was originally broadcast on WHN 1050am, which became WFAN on the same frequency.  WFAN eventually moved to 660am.  Don't know how WOR has the rights to broadcast it, unless it is strictly NY Mets property.
Tecsun H501x (broadcast received on this unless noted), Zenith T/O G500, Zenith T/O Royal 7000, Emerson AR-176, Zenith 8S154, T/O 7G605 (Bomber), Tecsun PL-600, Tecsun PL-880, Zenith 5S320, Realistic DX 160 using 40 feet of copper wire.  With apologies to Senator Gramm for his thoughts on firearms, "I have more radios than I need but not as many as I want."

WOR carries the Mets these days so may have the rights to rebroadcast that way.  I receive WOR fine in central Jersey.  Should be an interesting listen.   :)

They're a clear channel station with a 50kW transmitter, so they should be getting out a little further than that.  :)

I forward this night time coverage map of WOR AM, it seems like the better part of their signal goes out to sea.  New Haven is less than 70 miles from New York and just barely in their NIGHT TIME coverage area, they just make it into Pennsylvania.
For a clear channel station, they have to be among the most geographically limited.

I have always wondered why WOR 710 is highly directional beaming roughly in the direction of Bermuda.

(maybe they need a new azimuth coordinator  ??? )

Every once in a while when conditions are right I can pull a Yankees game out of the noise on WFAN 660 AM.

The following flagship baseball stations are fairly dependable at night here:

WLW   -  700 AM  -  Cincinnati Reds
WTAM - 1100 AM  -  Cleveland Indians
KMOX - 1120 AM  -  St. Lois Cardinals
WFED - 1500 AM  -  Wash. Nationals  (sometimes)

Baseball on the radio... love it!

That's an idea... I haven't tried much in the way of MW dx'ing for want of something to listen to - one major AM station is pretty much like every other one in this country, so I didn't see much point. But baseball on the radio is worth searching out. I should see if I can hear the midwest broadcasts.

It's funny - I thought I picked up a Knicks game on WOR a few months ago here in Denver, but didn't log it. Now I'm not sure.

Thanks for that link CT Yankee.

Bones I fully agree with your thoughts on baseball and radio...that's what got me into radio as a pre-teen in the mid 60's.  From my Queens brick 2-family, I'd pick up every team playing east of the Mississippi and the Twins on a clear channel station - no more.  I am in an area far more favorable for reception but the teams east of the Mississippi on a 50,000 watt station grows ever smaller - the Phillies and Orioles are the latest to go "smaller".

Here in southern Connecticut, I can pull in the Yanks, Mets, Red Sox, both Chicago clubs, Indians, Reds, Nationals, and under good conditions the Cardinals (Sometimes the Orioles on their DC affiliate).  If the Yanks or Mets are not in the Series, I root for the team whose radio broadcast I can receive.

2325z  After 1 inning Sox 1, Mets 0   ;)  (Radio Nacional is coming in better than WOR)

It's too depressing to listen to for me. I went into a deep depression for about a week.  :(
