7/3/12, 6925 USB, 0045z: Right now, intermittent CW and "Hello, Itasca" voice transmissions for this annual show.  Only fair at the moment, hopefully will improve.
0059z: CW again, signal improving.
0100z: Woman's voice "...on the hour and half hour on 3105..."?  Rough copy due to heavy local RFI, but signal improving overall.
0108z: Woman's voice again calling Itasca, "KHAQQ out".
0111z: Man's voice replying, NRUI calling KHAQQ with weather report.
0116z: KHAQQ calling Itasca, "I am approximately 300 miles out..."
0120z: Woman's voice "I am approximately 100 miles out" after CW, followed by man's voice reply "We cannot take a bearing on you on this frequency... please transmit your signal on 500 kilocycles..."
0124z: Slight signal shift/drift from around 6924.9 to 6925 plus change.  CW peaking S5 here (with my receiver attenuator on to reduce local RFI).
0126z: Uh-oh, Amelia sounding panicky.  Pull up, Amelia, pull up!

Been running a recording, and I can see I've capped some TXs in the Signal History.

0111 Caught some OM voice comms.  Right now having some intermittent power line noise problems, so this was hard to make out.
0116 YL voice: "I am approximately 200 miles out", followed by CW ".......DE NRUI"
0120 YL voice "...approx 100 miles out..."
OM: "...we cannot take a bearing on you on this frequency..."
0122 YL: "    KHAQQ OUT"
0125 CW: a request to xmit on 500 kc so as to be able to get a bearing

Caught some definite CW at 0030, though it was too rapid for me to make out; my skill at code is limited as yet.  Then quiet until about 0037, when someone started intermittently whistling on the same frequency.  Anyone else hearing the same?  It's definitely not an attempt at whistled CW, more like the sort of thing one stealthy person would give another as a signal on approach, if that makes any sense.

It's possible Earhart landed successfully on a reef and continued transmitting until the tide rose and flooded them out. Unfortunately it appears her continued radio transmissions after landing were ignored or not taken seriously: http://news.discovery.com/history/amelia-earhart-distress-calls-120601.html

Wow, Lex, great find on the follow up!

Sitting here with goosepimples, like every year I hear this station.

I'm cross posting this threat to reddit /r/amateurradio and have my posterous site links to loggings, and Lex's and Sealord's  older captures from 2008 linked, and will post segments of my recordings tonight as I can get them up.

Ran an SDR recording (DDC 100kHz wide) on this for playback later.
Had a S7 to S8 signal here and was able to copy some CW with fldigi live.

The literature on people who have disappeared is really fascinating. There's Michael Rockefeller, Judge Crater, Amelia Earhart, Chris Smolinski, and a whole host of others. We all hope that someday their fate will be revealed, but, to be realistic, we will probably never know.

Very faint CW first noted here on 6927 kc then very weak voice transmissions.  Coupled with the high static last night, it was difficult to make out anything intelligible.  Thanks to Lex for the fine report above.  It came in useful when reviewing my SDR recordings.  The only clear voice transmission that I heard was the OM telling her (in a terse voice) to QSY to 500 kc for a bearing at 0120 UTC.

Thanks for the interesting broadcast!
