about 9 -10 PM CST local

A beep every second, sorta like CHU but in Spanish!

I think the 80M band may have been long last night ...

It comes from Ecuador running a killowatt. I'm not sure which town.

From Wikipedia:

HD2IOA is the callsign of a time signal radio station operated by the Navy of Ecuador.[1] The station is located at Guayaquil, Ecuador and transmits in the in the HF band on 3810 and 7600 kHz.[2].

The transmission is in AM mode with only the lower sideband (part of the time H3E and the rest H2B/H2D) and consists of 1 kHz tone pulses repeated every second and voice announcements in Spanish.

While sometimes this station is described as defunct, reception reports of this station on 3810 kHz appear regularly at the Utility DX Forum

That time signal on 3810 comes through fairly routinely here in Texas late at night, tho' not always very strongly.  Sometimes regional hamster chatter covers it up, but the carrier is usually audible.

What was noteworthy was how absolutely *strong* that transmission was and how weak the band was for normal on-continent traffic; 80 was anemic that night except for distant stations. I can't remember the last time I saw 80 M so weak yet this time signal station 3000 miles away transequatorial was coming in strong!

I caught it with a decent signal on a portable with a whip two nights ago well away from any windows. It would've been popping on radio with a real antenna.

The station: Hearing 3810 kHz time/frequency station this morning ... kinda unusual for this time of year?

Noticed it was present with the portable Degen 1103 earlier, and of course stronger using an 80 M dipole and the Icom ...
