Loggings > North American Shortwave Pirate
The Crystal Ship 6925 AM 2104 UTC 26 JAN 2025
John Poet:
2109 "Don't Shake Hands With a One-Eyed Pirate"
2111 Monty Python Clip "Go and tell your master we have been charged by God with a sacred quest!"
with ID as "The Crystal Ship - Unchained"--- thought that one-eyed pirate tune was familiar! :D
S-6 to S-7 peaks on the Maryland skyloop SDR which has low-noise today--- buried by noise in Traverse City.
2112 Kansas- Carry on my wayward son with some very nice fade-ups!
HUGE audio fade-ups on REO Speedwagon's "Keep pushin' on!" at 2117
Long deep fades at 2118-- signal has been from just under S-5 to over S-9, with audio just barely audible to blasting out my speakers!
2119 BTO "Let It Ride"
2124 "Look, you stupid bastard, you got no arms left!" "YES I do, look--- just a flesh wound!" ~ Monty Python
"TCS Unchained" ID, into Judas Priest "You got another thing coming"
2130- Bruce Springsteen "No Retreat, No Surrender"
2135- Big booming fade-ups on Autorgraph "TURN UP THE RADIO"
2138 Monty Python "We were inmates of a Bengali psychiatric prison, and escaped by making this tiger skin out of old used cereal packets"
into Jane's Addiction "Been Caught Stealin"
2145 HUGE audio on Steely Dan's "Do it again", on the fade-ups--- sounding GREAT on the Maryland SDR
2149- MUDCRUTCH (Tom Petty)- "I don't scare easy"
2153- The late Radical with his spoof ad for "eBestiality.com"-- the animal dating website.
That was all HIS work--- my only contribution was adding the love theme from Romeo and Juliet at the end...
My "Donner Pass Diner "ad-- It's barbecue like 'your mom and dad didn't make it'
2156 Dokken "Breaking the chains"
2202 - The Who "I'm Free!"
2206- MP "Oh lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it you may blow thine enemies to bits, in they mercy"
Into another 'Donner Pass Diner' ad- "We don't want pioneers with good taste-- we want pioneers that taste good"
2207 Jackson Browne "Running On Empty" Sounds like some minor interference at this time..
2212- Boston- "Don't Look Back"
2218- ID, Quint and "Farewell and adieu", into station closing theme song,
The Ramones "We want the airwaves!" and closing clips.
Into an SSTV (did anyone get that?) and off about 2224.
My great thanks to those responsible for this! Sounded GREAT on the Maryland SDR--
I was grooving in my chair!

Let's just say 'The Crystal Ship is on the air'-- even if John Poet is not, so to speak :)
This is like listening to the ghost of one of my transmitters....
This program first aired 12 years ago, in 2013... As a brief editorial comment,
I would not have opened with the Soviet anthem, if it were today, hi.
This story can now be told-- this show was my private celebration of being "unchained" from any fixed-QTH antenna system,
or anything that resembled it ;D
