Gen Z's College Radio Revival? OK, how about a positive spin on this?

But even if the college stations themselves may be in a romantic renaissance, what about the audience ?

Are they turning back to analog FM receivers to get their music ?

Perhaps not the best comparison, but:

Our local “ community “ AM radio station ( I built the antenna 😁) had plenty of folks to staff the air time .
But the audience was almost at ZERO - from day one.
Things fizzled out , 80 % of the staff dropped out and they eventually went off air.

Simply a lack of interest.

I hope FM would be more attractive.I’d love to see college/ community radio succeed.

But how many 19 year kids have FM receivers in their dorm rooms?

Maybe it MIGHT work on a PC/ cell phone stream app ? ( $$$$).

Again I’d LOVE to see some interest. Just not sure how much is actually put there.

Well, don't forget that many smart phones have a DSP FM radio receiver built-in. They seem pretty sensitive, and selective, as well, as long as you have a headphone cord to act as an antenna, like the 1980's Walkman's. So, your question of, "But how many 19 year kids have FM receivers in their dorm rooms?" Well, if a DSP FM receiver function is built-in to their smart phones, then the answer could be, just about every one of them.

Quite interesting.

I was unaware that a cell phone may have an FM receiver built in.

It’s something I never really thought about or looked into- If I want FM,
 ( which is very rarely) I simply use a dedicated FM receiver.

Guess that makes me an old timer.😁.

https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-unlock-fm-radio-hidden-smartphone/    Even my P.O.S. KAOS dumb flip phone has the FM DSP chip in it, and it's not too bad. So, voila!!!! And, the FM DSP chip supposedly uses less power than the wi-fi functions. So, smoke 'em, if you've got 'em.
