Title: Strange broadcast on 4755khz
Post by: catmandoes on March 05, 2016, 2047 UTC
Hi all

I am new to HF underground but an active HF listener.
I came across this strange broadcast on 4755khz and wondered if anyone had any thoughts what it might be. New to me but might be familiar to others.

Ahhhh...tis a numbers station; I'm sure someone (token) will chime in with which one.       https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_station
Congrats on the nice catch, welcome to the group and thanks for sharing.

Sounds like "Russian Man" numbers station to me.

If you get interested in numbers stations, catmandoes, priyom.org is a great resource.

Welcome to HFU.

Yes catmandoes, this is a numbers station called S06 (ENIGMA designation) and "The Russian Man".  Specifically this is what is called a "null" message, meaning no actual encoded groups were sent, and so there was no message.

For future reference, it is best if you include not only the frequency, but also the time and date (both in UTC) to help identify a signal.  Sometimes the date and time can narrow down options with a less identifiable signal.

At a guess, if you recorded this today, it was at 2000 UTC.  This station has a regular schedule the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month (in March) at 2000 UTC, on 4756 kHz.

Thanks for the warm welcome and replies.

I heard the broadcast on Saturday 5th March at 2000 UT.
I picked it up at home, 65 miles west of London with my Tecsun, using a 20 meter wire antenna.

I will be defiantly hunting down more numbers stations !

Many thanks.
