Vanuatu is a long way from anywhere. Let's hope it's just a parts issue and they're waiting on a replacement.

They just had a visit from a Chinese diplomatic delegation announcing no Chinese interest in the South Pacific. I believe that as much as I do Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are real.

June 1 - "China and Vanuatu reached a five-point consensus on bolstering bilateral ties and cooperation on
international and regional affairs Wednesday after Vanuatu Prime Minister Bob Loughman and his key cabinet
members met with visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Wang said that his meeting with the Vanuatu side highlights the great importance the Pacific island country
attaches to its relations with China and the high level of their cooperation.Vanuatu PM Loughman announced
5 areas of assistance from China; direct flights from China; economic assistance; a weather station;
pre-positioned aid; hydrographic assistance. . . ."

Perhaps some of the "economic assistance" can go to improving Radio Vanuatu's SW transmitter, which
recently has been silent?

Thanks to Manuel Méndez's early alert in WOR iog! Here are a few highlights from June 3 harmonic receptions
(7890 & 11835, both about equal strength [3945 unusable]) of Radio Vanuatu. Very nice to have them
back on the air again!!

0652-0700 UT: Series of adv/PSA/promo; in English or Bislama; askes listeners if they are interested in local
activities(?), then there are classes available for media training for jobs in radio and TV (first time heard);
commercial for "IDA Pacific" pharmaceutical company, distributor of "IDA Foundation" products (often heard);
local time "six o'clock," and into the news/sports in Bislama till 0715. By 0900, the signal was unusable on all
frequencies.

Radio Vanuatu (11835, third harmonic), on June 4, from 0601 to 0730 UT; a good day here; some highlights:

"Islands in the Stream"; etc.).

0630: ID and local time ("half past 5"); weather conditions for the Northern, Central and Southern Islands.

0638: Generic PSA in Bislama regarding cyclones and coastal flooding.

0652: First time I have heard this RV ID, with a different musical montage.

0700-0715: Local time ("six o'clock"); news/weather in Bislama.

Hi Paul - Yes, Vanuatu has been silent since Sept 16, but please note their new frequencies, as posted here
at the underground. Their xmtr is having some serious problems!!

- - - - Posted September 07, 2022:

Sept 7 - After 0659* UT on 7932 kHz., I went looking for Vanuatu. Not on the usual frequencies.

Found Radio Vanuatu on new 8620.22 kHz., as measured on my old Eton E1 (am sure someone can
get a more accurate measurement!); mostly fair; // 4310.11 (poor) // 12930.33 (very poor).

0705-0716 UT: News/sports in Bislama.

0731-0801: Interview in English about investments (talking about gov't bonds, National Bank, low interest
rate loans, interest rates, "Investments not all in one basket," etc.).

0802+: Speech in Bislama about domestic violence in Vanuatu, violence against women, Vanuatu's Women
Center, etc.

Wonder how they are coming up with these strange frequencies?

- - - - - Posted September 09, 2022:

Radio Vanuatu goes off the air on 7932 kHz., at 0659* UT. Then switches frequencies from 0700 UT to fundamental
4310.188 kHz // harmonics 8620.377 and 12930.564 kHz., as measured today (Sept 9) by Wolfgang Bueschel.

Here in California, the 2nd harmonic (8620.377) is always the best heard, with the other frequencies poor to very poor.

VANUATU. Sept 10 observations:

7932, Radio Vanuatu heard 0633-0659* UT. At 0633: The usual segment of messages, but today was in French, instead of the
usual Bislama; 0637 the segment ending with the usual indigenous drums; 0638 till suddenly cut off at 0659*, with Island songs.

8620+, Radio Vanuatu, *0659 UT, suddenly started 10 seconds after 7932 went off the air:

0701-0712 UT: News/sports in Bislama (interesting sound bite of an historic address made to a crowd in Vanuatu, back on
April 7, 2018, during the visit of Prince Charles, when he was given the title and name of honorary high chief Mal Menaringmanu;
ending his address with "Vanuatu, you number one!". My audio posted at https://bit.ly/3qu7Rss ). This audio clip was separately
repeated again at 0739.

0652UTC Sat Sept 1 and there’s Vanuatu on its 7260 fundamental, though I think they were on a bit too late.

And it just went off at 0659, presumably to move to 5040khz which is next on the list in order of time if you believe their website, vbtc.vu

Nope not on 5040.

Guess where I found them at 0710?

Oct 1 -   Radio Vanuatu today (news & sports 0658-0714 UT) returned to their normal frequencies;
0620-0659* UT on 7260 and *0659 on 11835 // 7890, with 3945 being unusable.

Also noted:

SIBC (5020) better than usual due to continued absence of Cuba on 5025 (0757-0923 UT).

RRI Nabire (7289.93), with the usual format of mostly non-stop EZL songs, except 0847-0858 UT with Qur'an;
tuned out at 0920.

Shiokaze noted on the alternate frequencies yesterday at *1300 UT, of 5920 // 6165 (killing CNR6 reception!).
From Hiroshi (Japan), with Google translation, on Sept 30 (I appreciate his daily observations!):

"5920 and 6165kHz are out for "Shiokaze" on Friday 1300. 5920kHz is good without interference. At 6165kHz, there
is interference from CNR6 on the same wave, but it is weak and does not have a large impact. No jamming at all.
The first is the Japanese broadcast "Bridge over the Sea of Japan".
It is the same program as last Friday and Saturday. On September 14, the Special Committee on the Abduction Issue
of the House of Representatives visited the KDDI Yamata Transmitting Station. Participating members on the day are
as follows: Chairman Akihisa Nagashima (LDP), Director Toshinori Eto (LDP), Director Ikuko Nakagawa (LDP), Director
Susumu Watanabe (Constitutional), Director Erio Minobu (Ishin), Atsushi Suzuki (People), Ryo Kasai ( Communist Party),
Commissioner Mamoru Umetani (Constitutional Constitution) departed from the Diet to Yamata Transmitting Station in
Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture at 10:45 am. He again explained the issue of globalization and the importance of international
broadcasting. During the question-and-answer session, the participating Diet members asked lively questions one after
another. After arriving, a KDDI staff member explained the outline of the transmission facility, its history, shortwave
transmission, etc., and divided into two groups, each of which toured the overall facility, including transmitters and
antennas. It was very hot today, so by the time we returned to the meeting room, everyone was drenched in sweat,
but each of us said things like the vast site that we had never seen before, the scale of the transmitter, and the fact
that the construction was not easy. Afterwards, there were active questions and answers, and I felt that the understanding
of the superiority of analog broadcasting and Japan's only shortwave transmission facility was considerably deepened.
Next, the news that it submitted an opinion to the United Nations Human Rights Commission. The Ministry of Education,
Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has requested that related facilities in each prefecture be enriched with books
on the abduction issue. Next, Yumiko Usami's "I want to go home", which was sung at a joint public recording held in
Hiroshima on August 14th, appears. The "Road to Rescue Corner" was written by Shomei Masumoto about various
events held in Tokyo on September 17th. Twenty years have passed since the Japan-North Korea Summit Meeting.
"Voices from the Japanese government to the family" is a message to Yaeko Taguchi from her brother Shigeo Iizuka,
who passed away on December 18, 2021, and a message recorded at the National Assembly in November 2021. is.
After that, as usual, following the emergency broadcast IS, a warning was announced when escaping to Japan."
