Title: Whale Watching in Virginia Beach easier than ever
Post by: Davep on November 27, 2017, 1446 UTC
http://wtkr.com/2017/11/26/dead-whale-spotted-in-water-near-chics-beach/

This is the 4th Humpback death within a 5 mile radius of my crib within the last year.
It's cheaper to see these magnificent creatures this way, rather than pay the whalewatcher boat and there's no strict times to be at the dock.
Last year we were able to walk 3 blocks to view a fairly large female . As a bonus, our 7 yo granddaughter was able to see and smell the real deal instead of looking at a picture book.
The news always reports primarily the cause of death is unknown , but even though we aren't whale doctors saw the evenly spaced 6ft x 3 ft deep gash slices over its length from some Liberian flagged rustbucket propeller. Possibly authority figures do not want the city to be famous for being the epicenter of extinction .

Apparently the humpers don't have a squeak word for world's busiest shipping lane. Remember the 80s game Frogger?

Activist are clueless how to stop it, other than some kumbuyya or silent prayer for justice Karma ,or worse threatening not to give a crap anymore
D

Edit 12/4 UT
Still no word other than they said it hadn't eaten lately and they took it to the landfill but no prop marks evidently.

They're called "trypots". There's nothing better than a whale steak, freshly carved and cooked in a pot of boiling whale fat. mmm...

There's a good book about the whale trade in the New Zealand environs, "The Whale's Wake". And, of course, you can "call me Ishmael"

That poor orca doesn't stand a chance. Penguins are deadliest when they dive.

Nothing that setting up colonies of penguins to scare them away on Newfoundland and Sable Island wouldn't fix.

Perhaps they might migrate to the Great Lakes to take care of lampreys, invasive silver carp, zebra mussels, and old coots in Cleveland in torn purple snowsuits. Wearing a purple near a penguin is the same as saying "dinner is served!"
