Nice remembrance.
I was born and raised in a small port town - Fairport Harbor, Ohio. The EF was a somewhat frequent visitor to our port, and the First Engineer on that fateful sail, Ed Bindon, lived a few streets away from me. (Almost half the crew was from Ohio.)
