Title: Test dasher 13559.36 KHz
Post by: DYGradio on October 24, 2023, 2112 UTC
I have a dasher beacon up testing on 13559.36 KHz, about 66 dashes per minute. It is part 15 output and on my Comet vertical for now. Mostly testing battery and solar to see if it matches the math. This is a simple 4011 chip as oscillator and buffer/amp with a CMOS 555 keying it, followed by a two section low pass filter to smooth it out. Looks good on the scope. It will probably drift frequency a bit with temperature changes. Once it is proven out, it or another one I have ("DYG"), will be placed off site on a dipole. This is of course hammering my receivers around 22 meters so any beacons I put up will not be left here  ;D

If anyone hears it let me know, thanks!

Not sure if this is it, but with my receiver tuned to 13559.33 usb, I get what sounds almost like UVB-76.  Still hearing it at 23:36z.

Time from 0139 -0143  good fade ups...more of a ditter then dasher.
What Sealord heard is not the ditter.  So Ron is is getting out.
It will be interesting to see if TON fades up tonight also.

Thanks for the reports! I will leave it up for a few days as long as the battery stays charged up from solar which is part of this test to see if I need to adjust. I was able to copy it on the KFS SE KiwiSDR earlier this afternoon which was encouraging. It is on a Comet CHA-250B vertical connected directly into the base of the antenna. SWR measured about 1.6:1 at the frequency.

For reference, here is a local recording of it. On the Airspy HF+ with no antenna and attenuated. It has drifted down in frequency a bit along with the temperature.

Good conditions this morning with the receiver parked on 13559.34 USB...at 1039z could hear the same buzz pulse, but this time a quick dasher fades in at 27sec, peaks at 32sec and then is gone by 40sec into the recording.  There's some kind of ute around 13561, but hopefully none of what I'm hearing is a part of that.

Rons Hifer/dasher  ...I'm coping the dasher this morning beginning at 1400 utc.
I was wrong yesterday..I was hearing a ditter then.  However, Ron I'm hearing the dasher that you made
an audio file off.  Freq. 13559.36  icom 718 and efw ant.
It will be great when you attach an ID to your hifer.  With TSN not active it will be nice to
hear another AZ Hifer.

Thanks! Not sure what the buzz is but you have similar data sounds to what I hear here all the time around that frequency. There is a day/night consistent data signal here that is just up the band from where my dasher is, typical ISM stuff I would guess. The quick dasher at 27 seconds is not mine, it is too fast, but it is probably the ditter that Bill heard yesterday.

Thanks Bill, sounds like you got it. It is back on 13559.36 this morning with the sun up. In the late evening last night it was down to 13559.26, that seems to be about as far as it drifted. I am very pleased with how this antenna is working, will see how the battery holds up. I may switch it out to the hifer with the ID. I am thinking of moving that one frequency wise down into this area, it is currently very close to K6FRC.

The test dasher is now off the air after a successful test of antenna and solar/battery. My "DYG" beacon is now running up at 13564.82 KHz. Thanks to all who gave a listen for the testing!
