Title: Gv't shutdown FCC "agents" on furlough?
Post by: RickF on October 12, 2013, 2154 UTC
Was curious if anyone knew given the federal government "shut down" if the FCC agents responsible for busting Pirate broadcast are on furlough? Not that I would want those guys to miss a paycheck or two? ;D

Hey, I don't think so?

On the way back home tonight, I saw a couple FCC spooks that seemed to be surveilling me and my dog, Fart.

They were hiding in the bushes behind my house.

Who would've thought of that? BUSHES AS A HIDING PLACE!

Yikes!

Yep, they're cooling their boots at home. Only two Enforcement Bureau folks are working during the shutdown.

However, I suspect that if a pirate was endangering life/property by, say, interfering with an ATC frequency, Charlie will still be on their doorstep right quick.

At 0225z last night, I was hearing: Hot Legs Radio on 6925, Undercover Radio on 6930, COOL AM relay on 6935, RJI on 6940, and XFM on 6965, all at the same time.

Five 48m pirates at the same time. That may be some sort of a record?

Here's the number of HFU pirate logging threads for last month and this month to date. Yesterday was about twice the average for a peek weekend day.  Today is already high, for the day only being half over.

The FCC has stated that they are down to two percent of their usual staff for the duration of the shutdown, and are only responding to "emergencies"... which wouldn't include pirate radio broadcasts if the ops keep their signals clean and don't start taking out airports and the like...

The nationwide monitoring/direction-finding network continues to run and collect information, but they don't have staff to do any "routine" close-in work.

I guess that is why all the pirates are working in day time now
