Title: Letter "F" Beacon on 4100.4 @ 0715z
Post by: l0ngwire on December 03, 2022, 0724 UTC
Here in central California I am hearing the letter "F" at about 12wpm CW at 0715z.  Also some Asian langauge QRM on 4100 USB.

Anybody else hearing it?  Evidently it has been on before--last heard about ten months ago.

FWIW, the Desert Whooper is currently weak and I can't here the Coastal Slider at all.

Cool logging!!!

I am hearing "F" on 4100.040, not 4100.400 so I'm guessing a drifty beacon or late night typo?  8)

At home it is very weak on my KX3 but it is there!

I have to use the KFS SE SDR to get a better signal.

Teotwaki, my Icom 7200 read 4100.4.  And... I"ve finally realized its display is about four-tenths of a KC off in the CW mode, thanks to your correction.  Curiously, on SSB it still is correct in its read-out.

No F beacon tonight here in SB...

I ran into something similar where the DW beacon’s “whoop” sound seemed to sweep downward despite a spectrum display showing the upward RF sweep. Putting the radio into the “CW-R” mode was the cure.

From the 7200 manual:

The CW-R (CW Reverse) mode receives CW signals on the reverse sideband like that of the LSB and USB modes.
Use when interference is near the desired signal and when you want to shift the tone of the interfering signal.

Push MODE one or more times to select the CW mode.
Hold down MODE for 1 second to select the CW or CW-R mode
