Pirate stations are also illegal in Ireland, but the authorities are not prosecuting them as long as they are not disturbing anything or getting a complaint from foreign countries. Two stations were raided in 2022 after complaints for disturbing NATO frequencies.

Exactly.
Comreg don't monitor SW or MW so if you keep clean, you shouldn't have a problem, the 2 recent raids were due to complaints from abroad.

When I was in Scotland last month in holiday I picked up Radio North when I was near to Glasgow. Is this a licenced station or a pirate? There's also a religious station I picked up on SW a while back can't remember the name I think that might be a pirate too?

Radio North is a MW station on 846 kHz at the North tip of Ireland, in Republic of Ireland, but aiming religious broadcasts to Northern Ireland. Established many years ago, and listed in WRTH, although unlicensed.
Same way for Radio Star Country on 981 kHz, but South of the border.
