Title: Pirate Radio Thrives in Internet Age
Post by: Strange Beacons on July 15, 2013, 1539 UTC
Unlicensed “pirate” radio stations are thriving in the Internet age, despite the fact that most people can now operate their own Web-based radio stations without risking arrest.

“A vibrant pirate radio scene continues in the United States, and also in Europe and to a lesser extent in South America,” said George Zeller, a pirate radio listener/journalist for the past four decades.

“This includes a very energetic pirate radio scene on shortwave, and also a stunningly resilient pirate radio scene on FM and to a lesser extent on medium wave, despite the frequent busts by the FCC of FM pirates.”

(From the comment section)

"Great article. I'd like to point out one correction. The old FRN (Free Radio Network) has merged with HFU at www.hfunderground.com, providing an even more current resource for pirate radio stuff on AM, FM and shortwave. You should probably correct the dead link on your page to point to www.hfunderground.com.

Oh, I just spit Coke all over my screen on that one!

I can see the joke with the signature, that's hilarious, but to assert that the FRN has "merged with HFU"  does not necessarily cast HFU in a positive light.... would be like "merging" with a nest of vipers, wouldn't it.

So, who's in charge of the sock-puppet department?   ;D ;D ;D

(OK, I get it... you was trollin'!!)

Awful lot of CB Murphy in that article. It must have been a great sacrifice for him to come off "vacation" to supply all those self-promoting quotes and inaccurate graphics... but it gave me a good laugh!  :D :D

I bet he'll laugh just as hard himself when he sees that comment.....  ;D ;D ;D

Wow, I had no idea that his was happening. Does this mean that all of us HFU moderators will have to go to undergo Sock Puppet Training? I understand that it's a simple, painless operation.

Yeah, I tried to cue the author in on the FRN issues, but alas.

With a name James Careless, what do you expect?

Mention of CB popped up in a little snippet in this months Monitoring Times. He will be "on vacation for many, many months" according to the author.

I wonder if the old fart has finally got locked up?

I heard that Bunny got turned into Rabbit Pie *chuckles*

Wasn't there some talk a little while ago that suggested PM was up in front of the judge?
