Title: My Antenna ?
Post by: Dash Bronzehand on July 23, 2013, 1450 UTC
Hey guys, What's happening ? Just thought i'd pop in quickly and get a rundown on my equipment from some folks here, that are much more experienced than me when it comes to SW/HF DXing and TXing. So ill list my current set up.

1 x Grundig Satellit 750 AM/FM/SW Radio w/ SW loop antenna

1 x Regulated 24V 60AMP delta communications power supply (can run 3 HF radios)

1 x Digitech 80 channel UHF CB radio w/ 2 feed UHF-2-BNC adapter (therefore running 2 UHF antennas @ 477mhz 5DBi gain)

1 x ICOM 718 HF Transceiver (plugged into power supply, obviously) running 2 feed UHF-2-BNC adapter w/ one 25-29mHz base antenna and the other antenna is a 330 feet longwire antenna using standard RG58 COAX cable. (striped and soldered) now the question i have is 1. What do you think of my current setup? and 2. is a 330 foot antenna made of this cable [ http://goo.gl/5WvRBV ]
going to do ok ?

Cheers guys.

Sincerely, Dash Bronzehand.

You made your antenna elements out of RG-58?

 ???

Sounds like you're describing a "snake" antenna - a long hank of coax with the shield removed toward the far end and sorted to the center conductor.  I've never had a long enough bit of coax to try that, but reportedly it's pretty quiet.
