Title: UNID 6830 USB 2324 UTC 17 OCT 2023
Post by: Shortwave_Listener on October 17, 2023, 2337 UTC
S9 with the KT4RS KiwiSDR.

2324 UTC-Noise, similar to but not the same as 6945

This can be heard on KiwiSDRs in Europe (strong) and Asia (weak), either a very powerful pirate or some broken utility. Also heard on 5714 USB. Presumably not pirate.

0000: S9 signal with similar sounding noise as on 6945.
0021: Seems off.
0022: Nope, back.

I have it with a good signal, but, audio is very broken up. Maybe music.  Definitely strange.
0005, On my waterfall display this looks like the  6945 signal.

IT'S THE WAR OF THE WORLDS!

Seriously, this is similar, I agree.

Bits of maybe kinda-sorta music.

The "distributed" frequency nature (showing up on multiple frequencies at once) makes me think that someone has a very severe Intermodulation Distortion (IMD) issue.

I'm going to check if 6830 is // 6945. --> Conclusion: They do seem to be sort of doing the same thing.

Off or stopped at 0021 UTC but only briefly.

I send a message to the UDXF forum, see what answers I'll get with this oddly signal

So I got a answer that it is from Khabarovsk Russia and it has to do with a bad broadcast, so i would say mystery solved

- again that strange signal on 6830 on 19 OCT 2023 at 0745,
also on 5715
heard here in Europe (while propagation is open from South USA)

- again on 6830 on 21 OCT 2023 à 0740 UTC (same conditions)

Hello Ray,

As for 6830 kHz, my copy of Roland Proesch's Frequency Handbook for Radio Monitoring HF this indicates South African Navy with an MHF-50 MODEM (B=54.3 Bd, Ch=32, Ch Spacing=64.5 Hz). Another user is Russia PTT Moscow in CIS ARQ mode, B=100Bd, S=500Hz.

No hits on the 5715 frequency and I have not been able to receive those signals to have a listen to them.

This is back right now on 6831, it sounds like bad SSTV or WEFAX.  It's S9 in central Pennsylvania, so I'm doubting it's from Russia.

01:11 UTC 28 OCT 2023 - Receiving it as well. I also came across it a few days ago when it was much clearer. It sounds like a broken FAX transmission with an echo in it. Listen to it for a while and you will notice the similarities to the FAX cadence.

Tonight the frequency is presenting a perfectly normal, albeit apparently encrypted, RTTY signal.

Nothing my way tonight but I did catch the same signal in the 7 and 5 MHz band way early this morning and unfortunate did not have anything to write down the frequencies with.
