Is this a beacon? 0512 utc. 4/17/24.
Thump thump. Heartbeat sound. Clearest on CW at 3900.15.
-
I can hear it on Lower Side Band as well. In fact it's pretty wide. All around 3,900
-
It stopped sometime just before 0600 UTC
-
It’s hard to say what you heard but see if it comes back in the same time frame. Quite a few beacons operate nighttime only.
Also look at our listing of known beacons in the pinned topic of active beacons.

Thanks. I will record it next time. Is there a way to attach a recording? That would be a great feature here.

Tonight around 0730utc I heard the same signal on 3900. At the same time it is also on 3550 and 7050. I also heard it several times a year ago. It is typically on for an hour or thereabouts. I have no idea what the source is. Checking on SDRs in California, Utah, New York and Alaska, I heard the 7050 signal on all of them, with the Utah SDR having the strongest signal.
Here's a link to a previous posting of mine about it:

one way to share is to post to YouTube. Forum member Token has excellent recordings from his SDR at https://youtu.be/LvxhB-xhSJE?si=5hQoR2CPPNbESHfi
Nine years back I posted some very simple videos where I posted a video of my receiver or combined the MP3 audio clip with some photos

Thanks for the info longwire. I knew somebody out here must have heard it before. A gentleman I was speaking to on 3900 Lower Side Band noticed it and told me he had heard it off and on over the years.
Also thanks for the reply teotwaki I will start looking at posting recordings on YouTube.

The mystery "pips" were back tonight on 3550, 3900 and 7050. I first heard them at 0720z and they went off at 0728z. I monitored the 7050 signal on several Kiwi SDRs around the country. It was the strongest in Miami at +10db, second strongest on the N. Utah Kiwi SDR at S9. On the California Mojave Token SDR it was S5 and S5 on a New York SDR. On a Hawaiian SDR it was S3. It could not be heard on an Alaskan SDR.
Hmmm... any guesses?

Ah good job tracing this. Thank you for that info. I'm right now talking to some friends of mine on 3900 and I mentioned HF Underground and told them that people are aware that and are watching it on here. Everybody's really curious about what it actually is.

On the California Mojave Token SDR it was S5
URL?
I recall when Token had a shortwave receiver connected via a server but thought it was permanently offline. I looked again at the kiwiSDR listings but do not see a Mojave listing or one for the city Token lives in.
