In the last 20 years, or so, there's been this big rise in licensed GMRS, (General Mobile Radio System), radios and repeaters. Best site for that is the My GMRS site, where you can scan over this map. https://www.mygmrs.com/map Being 462 / 467MHz UHF, it does have its perks & jerks. Here, where I live in West Virginia, UHF pretty much sucks for any great range, with very rugged terrain and very high foliage absorption. However, if short ranges and immunity to many electrical and RFI noises is what you want, good for that. UHF is also more sensitive to Tropo Propagation, than VHF. So, DX'ing certainly possible. BTW, apparently, there a proposal to expand GMRS into VHF Low Band, 30MHz - 50MHz. If, that's true, that would be of a great benefit where I am, since VHF Low Band rocks here. I'd love to see an allocation in the upper 40 MHz area. That gives a good difference from 27 MHz, plus close to amateur 6m, so that perhaps manufacturers could slip on down to 48-49 MHz easily from 6m.
