Title: SSTV 27 Mar 2014
Post by: ChrisSmolinski on March 27, 2014, 1726 UTC
Lots of stuff being received by the HFU 27700 Robot today: http://hfunderground.com/sstv/recently_received_sstv_images.php

Andrew Yoder has been copying 11m SSTV as well: http://hobbybroadcasting.blogspot.com/

He brought up an interesting point, how we don't receive the same images always, and when we do, they can vary dramatically in quality. Andrew and I actually don't live very far apart, maybe 30 or so miles?  I don't know what he is using for an antenna, I am using a 132 T2FD that is not very tilted at the moment, and is pretty low actually. I hope to eventually switch to a 5/8 wavelength vertical and see if that improves things.

This was a great day for you to mention that we don't always receive the same signals up on these frequencies. I think today was probably the biggest difference in received SSTV images that I've noticed yet. At first glance, I think we might both only have 1 pic. And that's especially weird because Chris received a bunch and so did I. BTW, I'm using the Drake R8 here and the antenna is just a dipole cut for 6300 kHz; my antenna mast snapped in the wind about 2 weeks ago & it's mostly flat on the ground. Not exactly high tech.

DL911 (who I often copy on 27700) has a web page with screenshots of received images: http://qsl.net/dl911/

And again it is interesting to note how different the collection of received images is.

In fact, today I have been running SSTV on a second computer, using the NRD 545 and 43mb dipole, and it picks up different images vs the SDR-14 / T2FD combo. Very interesting.
