Post by: gcgolfer on July 16, 2026, 0748 UTC
I built a free tool to see what's on shortwave right now — figured this sub would actually use it
Got tired of flipping between EIBI PDFs and band guides just to figure out what's actually broadcasting at a given moment, so I built a site that does it for you: hqshortwaveradio.com
What it does:

Shows what's on air right now based on your UTC time
Searchable schedule (frequency, station, language, region) — EIBI A-26 data
Logbook with streaks/badges if you like tracking your catches
QSL card guide, glossary, numbers stations list, vintage radio stuff
Direct WebSDR links so you can listen even without a rig nearby

It's free, no login wall, no ads shoved in your face. Built it mostly for myself and figured I'd share it in case it's useful to others here too.
Would genuinely love feedback — especially on the schedule accuracy or anything that's missing that

Title: 📻 Community update — you talked, I listened
Post by: gcgolfer on July 18, 2026, 0440 UTC

Wanted to share some updates to hqshortwaveradio.com based on suggestions from folks in the SWL community. Really appreciate everyone who's sent ideas and feedback — a bunch of it made it into the site:
✅ New live status when you search — punch in a frequency or station and it now tells you if it's on the air right now, when it goes off, or when the next broadcast starts — plus the transmitter location and which region it's beamed toward. So you can decide for yourself whether it's worth chasing.
✅ Text-size button that actually works — one tap makes everything bigger, easier on the eyes (and on phones).
✅ New FAQ section for folks newer to the hobby — what numbers stations are, best time of day to listen, how to get a QSL card, and more.
✅ A bunch of behind-the-scenes fixes to make the whole site faster and easier to use.
Still free, still no login, still no ads shoved in your face. And a couple of the bigger requests (like local SDR tuning and location-based reception predictions) are on my list to explore properly.
Keep the suggestions coming — this thing keeps getting better because of you all. Give it a look and let me know what you'd want next. 👇

Hey — dropped some new stuff on ShortwaveHQ (hqshortwaveradio.com), come take a look.
New this update:

Silent Key — original deep-dive stories on legendary stations, starting with The Lincolnshire Poacher and Radio Netherlands Worldwide
Interval Signal Library — searchable archive of station interval signals/tunes from around the world

Still very much a work in progress. If something's broken, missing, or you've got an idea for what should come next — tell me. All suggestions welcome.

Title: Quick update on hqshortwaveradio.com — fixed a bug where the live EIBI merge was
Post by: gcgolfer on July 23, 2026, 2038 UTC
Quick update on hqshortwaveradio.com — fixed a bug where the live EIBI merge was wiping hand-curated entries (UVB-76, SKYKING, pirate/edge-of-band WRMI frequencies) from search results. That's clean now, and the whitelist filter cut out most of the marine/coast-station noise that was cluttering the raw feed.
Also starting to build out equipment reviews — a few radios in the pipeline from smaller Amazon-native brands. If anyone here has experience with the ZHIWHIS ZWS-802, Raddy RF919, or similar budget SDR-adjacent units, I'd genuinely like to hear it before I write anything up — trying to keep the reviews accurate rather than just spec-sheet regurgitation.
Site's still a work in progress, open to corrections on anything that looks off.

Title: Built a live band conditions + frequency tool, curious if it's useful to this cr
Post by: gcgolfer on August 02, 2026, 1845 UTC
Been lurking here a while and figured I'd share something I built rather than just post another log.

It's a shortwave tool site — live band condition readouts by frequency range, a station/frequency finder pulling from the EIBI schedule, and a few other utilities I kept wanting while chasing signals myself. Just added my first gear review too (XHDATA D-219).

hqshortwaveradio.com

Not trying to sell anything — genuinely curious if the finder/schedule tools are actually useful to people who log seriously, or if I'm missing what this crowd actually wants from something like that. Feedback (even blunt) welcome.

Title: ShortwaveHQ just got a big update — wanted to share it with the community
Post by: gcgolfer on August 21, 2026, 0839 UTC
Hey everyone — I've been working on a free shortwave resource called ShortwaveHQ and just pushed a pretty significant update I wanted to share.

hqshortwaveradio.com

Here's what's new:

Real NOAA propagation data — the propagation page now pulls actual solar data every morning from NOAA SWPC. Solar Flux Index, K-index, A-index, sunspot numbers, and pre-computed band conditions for every shortwave band from 120M down to 13M. No more estimates — if 19M shows Excellent it's because the math from real solar data says so.

Log a Catch — just added a community reception log. If you're hearing something, you can submit the frequency, station, SINPO report, location, and a note. Approved catches show up in a live feed so other listeners can see what's actually making it through right now. Would love to get some real SWL catches in there from this community.

CHU Canada offline notice — anyone searching for CHU or its frequencies (3330, 7335, 14670) now gets a clear notice that it's shut down and a pointer to WWV.

Schedule database — still the core of the site. Live EIBI A-26 data, updated daily, cross-validated against HFCC where available. 300+ stations, 800+ frequencies, searchable by station, frequency, language, or country.

Everything is free, no login required. Would genuinely appreciate any feedback from experienced SWLs — especially on the propagation model and any catches you want to log.

ShortwaveHQ update — real NOAA propagation data + community reception log now live

Hey everyone — wanted to share an update on a free tool I've been building for the SWL community.

ShortwaveHQ (hqshortwaveradio.com) started as a live EIBI schedule database and has grown into something more useful over the past few months. Here's what's new:

Real NOAA propagation data — the propagation page now pulls actual Solar Flux Index, K-index, A-index, and sunspot numbers from NOAA SWPC every morning and computes band conditions for every shortwave band from 120M down to 13M. No more estimates. If 31M shows Excellent it's because the math from real solar data says so.

Community reception log — new feature where you can submit what you're actually hearing. Frequency, station, SINPO report, location, and a note. Approved catches show up in a live feed so other listeners can see what's making it through right now. Would love to get some real HF Underground catches in there — you folks hear things nobody else does.

Schedule database — still the core. Live EIBI A-26 data updated daily, cross-validated against HFCC where available. 300+ stations, 800+ frequencies, searchable by station, frequency, language, or country.

Everything is free, no login, no ads. Built by a ham (KM7FMJ) and SWL in Gilbert, Arizona.

Genuinely would appreciate feedback from experienced listeners here — especially on the propagation model and any catches worth logging.

Title: 📻 Big update on ShortwaveHQ — the search just got a whole lot smarter.
Post by: gcgolfer on September 05, 2026, 1745 UTC
📻 Big update on ShortwaveHQ — the search just got a whole lot smarter.

Type in a frequency, a station name, or even just a country, and you'll get real, scored results pulled from a live daily-updated global schedule — not a static list from months ago. Found something crowded on the band? The search now ranks results by how close your match actually is, so the right station surfaces first instead of getting buried.

Also new: hands-on video reviews are live now alongside the written ones, real NOAA propagation data so you know what the bands are actually doing, and a community Reception Log where you can share your own catches.

Still the same mission: build the best shortwave schedule search out there, one honest update at a time.

🔗 hqshortwaveradio.com — try searching a frequency you've been chasing and see what comes up.

Title: "ShortwaveHQ update — 309 stations, real NOAA propagation data, community recept
Post by: gcgolfer on September 18, 2026, 0854 UTC
A few updates on ShortwaveHQ (hqshortwaveradio.com) since I last posted here — figured this crowd would actually find some of it useful.

Database grew to 309 stations / 814 frequencies, pulled and merged daily from EIBI with a broadcast-band whitelist filter to cut out the marine/coast-station noise. Search is scored (exact freq match > 10kHz > 50kHz, text search with alias expansion) rather than a flat list.

Added real NOAA space weather data — SFI, K-index, sunspot number, 24hr SFI history — pulled server-side, not a randomizer like a lot of sites fake this with.

New: a community Reception Log. No login, just log a catch (freq/time/station/SINPO) and it shows up in a live feed on the Propagation page. Wanted a low-friction way for people to actually share what they're hearing instead of it living in a notebook.

Also published a handful of hands-on radio reviews (Radioddity GS-10B Pro, XHDATA D-219, a couple others) — actual testing, not spec-sheet rewrites.

Still a work in progress and I'd rather hear the criticism now than after I've built more on a bad foundation — if anything looks off or you spot bad data in the schedule, there's a report link on the search page, or just reply here.
Title: A-26 → B-26 season switch is Oct 25 — what usually moves, and a free tracker
Post by: gcgolfer on October 07, 2026, 2113 UTC
summer (A-26) schedules end on Oct 25 and broadcasters switch to B-26. Based on the usual pattern: nights get longer, so 49/41/31 m stay open later and 19/16/13 m close earlier, and a lot of evening services drop to lower frequencies. Clocks change around the same weekend, so some broadcasts shift an hour in UTCThe s while others keep UTC and move on your clock.

I run a free schedule site (ShortwaveHQ, built from EIBI + HFCC data, no login). I snapshotted the A-26 baseline on Oct 7 so the changes can be measured: 318 stations, 4,974 broadcasts, 822 frequencies. When the B-26 file is out, the page lists every station that dropped, every new service and every frequency change.

hqshortwaveradio.com/season-change/

Two things I'd like from this group:
1. Which stations do you want to see tracked first (WRMI, WWCR, Radio Romania, others)?
2. If a frequency or time on the site looks wrong for your area, tell me and I'll check it against EIBI.

Full disclosure: it's my site. The schedule pages have no ads; the review pages have Amazon affiliate links.
