When I first saw this I was thinking "Now, which of the Boston sports teams are the Pirates?".

Whats interesting about this, is even the people posting comments on this industry rag had really nothing negative to say about the stations in general. I think it strikes a chord in the industry, and perhaps people are waking up to the fact that corporate radio in the modern age no longer represents or serves the communities they are licensed to.
Just my two bits,

Touch FM really was the only station serving the black community in Boston since AMer WILD was sold and now broadcasts China Drive. Even our governor Cadillac Deval Patrick was a supporter.

Basically echoing what Chris L. said. The Boston radio dial is a terrible bore that is very suburban-centric and almost completely ignores large clusters of certain ethnic populations, mainly urban. Continuous soft hits on the head, some angry white guy sports talk, a few decent public radio options. It's hardly a surprise Boston has become a pirate radio hotbed and I suspect that the pirates will continue. The Touch raid was arguably politically motivated, and the other two stations supposedly busted simultaneously had interference claims from Logan airport against them. If you keep your head down, and don't interfere, you can operate almost indefinitely - as many stations have been doing.

Pirate radio stations are the modern "Sons of Liberty" !
