Post by: myteaquinn on June 28, 2014, 1241 UTC
Just came across a reminder and thought that I would pass this on. Tried for the last two years and haven't heard a thing but its all about the chase.

Transmissions on Alexanderson Day, Sunday,  June 29, 2014
SAQ will be on air on Sunday 29 June. We try to start the transmitter soon after 08.30 UTC so there will be a test signal from about 08.40 UTC and a message will be sent at 09.00 UTC. A similar procedure will start at 11.30 UTC and the message will be repeated at 12.00 UTC. The frequency is 17.2 kHz CW.

Yes, I was listening too with a Drake R8 and a Heathkit VLF converter. I replaced the 3.5 MHz xtal with a 4mhz xtal in the Heathkit converter and was waiting on 4017.2 kHz (4000khz + 17.2khz) and heard nothing but moderate local noise. Was able to hear those 2 fsk stns just above 20khz but they are always there. Also WWVB at 60. One of these days I'll have to build a 17.2 kHz resonant loop, with cathode follower to match impedance to the receiving eq.
