Am I just a newbie to this, or is 3840.2 a frequency out of control tonight? Is this the usual?
A bunch of ranting, arguing, fighting, music, profanity, etc., it's not exactly difficult to record this to demonstrate insanity in real time.
It sounds like some crazy people stuck in an asylum together.

Normal? No. A common practice on this frequency? Yes. Happens all the time.
Remember that Ham radio is a cross section of the society it resides in, and will have the same ratios of nuts, grouches, racists, haters, trolls, good guys, and saints. In this case you have found a frequency that is commonly used by some of the more agitated, and agitating, members of the society. 3840 kHz on 80 meters (or 75 meters, if you prefer), and 14313 kHz on 20 meters are the two best known HF fishing holes for this kind of activity. Fishing holes are often found near bridges, after all, and we all know what hangs out under bridges ;)

3840 is regular radio fun land.
Major holidays are when it's at it's peak. The week between Christmas and New Years sounds like the 3 Stooges vs. Hank The Angry Drunken Dwarf, but a tad less sophisticated.

Thanks for the responses, guys. The craziness of certain ops of all nationalities and persuasions is often what makes this hobby so unique and interesting... You want the underbelly of USA (or any other) society? You got it! Anthropologists ignore these phenomena at their peril.

Someone playing "Bad Moon Rising" at 0157 UTC 10/26, i.e. local time right now. I wonder at what point this turns from ham misbehavior to pirate? ;D

There was a ham who used to broadcast in that region running an AM transmitter with a lot of power. He was on almost every night for a number of years before the FCC shut him down. He had guests, did remotes, he was something.
That LSB crew would try to jam him, but he would just crank up the power.
I saw his NAL in QST, but I don't remember the details.

Pigmeat and Token, thanks so much for your input. Helps me understand.... a helluva lot. Cheers!

A recent grease fire is steadily growing on 7.210 LSB starting around 00:00 UTC.
Cubans located (primarily) in Florida broadcast the "Revolution", play music and all sorts of whatnot.

Thanks for the tip, OSR!

Pigmeat... You must be talking about K1MAN a.k.a. Glenn Baxter.. The IARN guy...
I kinda sorta know the guy... A real laugh riot but a pain to the hobby...
I don't miss him ;D

Pigmeat and K: The Ham wars continue. There was a guy playing music in the 3840 region last night, and some other ham got so pissed off he gave out (to the world) (allegedly) this guy's phone number, twice! I suppose that's one way of dealing with ops like Pigmeat mentioned. I couldn't believe it. I expect mucho activity in this region for the rest of the year. The area code was Californian, I believe. The things we hear on the west coast late at night on Halloween. Good thing too, as 6925 was buried in static junk the entire evening. :-\
