I encountered this signal just now. Unfortunately there's storms in the area, so I only had time to take a quick snapshot of the waterfall before I disconnected the antenna:

Noting the same here. It looks symmetric about 6942

It is back again. S9+10

I observed the signal strength of this station in the overnight SDR recording:
Starting at around 2130z it was about S9+15. It was about that much of the afternoon and evening, and was about S9+20 at 0640z, when it suddenly dropped in strength (with the characteristic selective fading of a station going long) to about S9.
It then bounced around this strength for a while, came back up to s9+10 around 0705z, then dropped to S9 again around 0715z, and mostly faded out by around 0720z. It popped up again around 0740z for a few minutes.
It came back around 0928z, mostly in the S9 to S9+10 range. Another fadeout 1014z to 1042z. Then back and forth a few times, between an S9 signal and almost nothing.
At 1122z there was a very dramatic jump from barely audible to s9+20, where the signal has remained since.
It is still very strong as I type this at 1224z.
Checking a webSDR, K2SDR in NJ, it is audible there. Also on W1GIV in CT, and very weak but present on the MI webSDR.
There was just a brief increase to S9+30 here around 1226z.
I'd summarize the above by saying that the signal reception here is via NVIS propagation, with a period from 0640z to 1122z when foF2 was [generally] too low. I say generally because the signal was not completely gone during the period.
It certainly seems to be somewhere in the northeast US, or extreme southeast Canada. Perhaps some additional daytime reception reports could help narrow down the approximate location?
Update: The station went QRT at 1338z.

I'm in Southern Ontario. I've set up the frequency on my HT & will monitor it during the day - Hopefully it comes back on.

I too noted the mystery signal in the evening of 06/01/15. Here, it was giving VERY fat signal reaching an over/under spread of 6938-6946 kHz.
