Obviously part of the plot to cover up what happened to Amelia Earhart, Chris. Destroy the evidence, fake a nuke test, then keep everyone out until the vegetation grows back. Diabolical!

One other observation; I wonder if the folks in Micronesia know they're in Indonesia, aka, the former East Indies?

The blast wave from a 20-kiloton device, at a range of 3.5 miles, would probably cause no damage whatsoever-- so the thing about the beach fixtures being undamaged from the first test really is meaningless.

One megaton-- the most numerous size of device in the Soviet arsenal at one time-- that would be a different story.
