King of Norway’s Guard
Uniformed soldiers of the King of Norway’s Guard parade for inspection by their mascot, king penguin Nils Olav, at Edinburgh Zoo, Monday, Aug. 22, 2016. It was announced that the penguin who had previously been knighted has been promoted and given the new title of "Brigadier Sir Nils Olav”.
It seems the Norwegian military is now fully controlled by the penguin hordes.
No doubt, they are amassing a force to head off FanCo's covert whale oil harvesting expedition in the North Sea...

Nil's looks spiffy this year.
He's a hostage, part of an exchange. We're hoping to assimilate him. They keep Captain Ron in Antarctica, we hold Nils in Norway. Competing Great Powers have engaged in high status hostage exchanges for millennia as a sign of good faith and as a bond. As for the Norwegians they're our Allies, we've worked both in the North Sea and off the Faroes together for decades. Emperor Al even donates money out his own pocket to keep the traditional Scandinavian whaling industry afloat. They're also our back channel to the Penguin hordes, much like Canada was at times for both China and Iran for the late United States. (You don't think that fiction still exists, do you?)
Roald Amundsen established close relations between Norway with the Penguins on his romp to the South Pole in Al's grandfather, Emperor Norton II of The United States and Protector of Mexico's reign. It was necessary to block the Nazi sub bases they knew were coming. Why do you think Hitler hides on St. Helena, pretending to be Napoleon to this day? No access to Antarctica due to Fansomian pluck and initiative. A key of good diplomacy is to have some contact with your enemy to gauge their mood and gather subtle bits of intelligence. We've never made anything secret, our motives have always been in the open, flying just under the radar. Don't you get the weekly report in your local shopping paper?
Welcome to Fansomia. Have fun watching Hilly-Bob and Big Orange battle it out for the Little League World Series.

Thanks for clearing that up, Pigmeat. I was worried that you guys had riled them up while going under the ice to annihilate the Greenland sharks.
I wasn't aware that Al was a direct descendent of the visionary emperor, but that certainly fits. If only Norton had been able to dissolve congress....
Glad to see Al hasn't continued with the emperors obsession with Peruvian rice and has moved on to more profitable paths.
The weekly report must be in the really fine print that these eyes are too old to make out - I'll have to dig out the magnifier and try to keep up.

I am always amazed at the history I learn reading this site. Thanks guys. Where were you all when I was studying for my SATs 56 years ago?
