Title: Shiokaze/Sea Breeze now on 5985 kHz.
Post by: Ron - Calif. on September 01, 2016, 1617 UTC
Shiokaze/Sea Breeze via Yamata (Japan), broadcasting
to North Korea, now back to alternate frequency of 5985,
ex: 5965; *1300-1400*, Sept 1. Another Thursday in English;
much stronger than Myanmar Radio also on frequency; usual
intro and into "Today's Newsflash" and "Today's News on North
Korea Issues"; surprised at 1356 to find Myanmar was off the
air (what happened?); after 1400 was a clear frequency.

Ex: 5965, heavily jammed by North Korea. Will take them
a while to note the switch in frequency up to 5985.

7325, Shiokaze/Sea Breeze via Yamata *1405, Sept 1. All
in Japanese; clearly the Shiokaze intro, but at 1407 seemed
to switch to relay of "Furusato No Kaze" ("Wind of Hometown"),
produced by the Japanese government; confirmed today by
Hiroshi.

Shiokaze is the station broadcasting from Japan to North Korea
and dealing with the issue of Japanese citizens who have been
believed to be kidnapped by North Korea for the purpose of
teaching language there.

Now there is an interesting story of an American student that was
kidnapped by North Korea back in 2004 for that purpose. Full story
at  http://goo.gl/uZL5oW .

"An American student reported missing during a 2004 hiking trip
in China was kidnapped and forced to teach English to North
Korean leader Kim Jong Un, authorities say.

David Sneddon, a Brigham Young student, disappeared at the
age of 24 in Yunnan Province in what Chinese police said was
likely a hiking accident.

But the body of Sneddon — who spoke fluent Korean — was
never found and his parents were suspicious....

According to Choi Sung-yong, head of South Korea’s Abductees’
Family Union, Sneddon has been found living in the North Korean
capital of Pyongyang, where he works as a school teacher. He
reportedly is married and has two children.

North Korea has a long history of kidnapping foreign nationals,
and Sneddon’s parents believe their son was targeted because
he served on a Mormon mission in South Korea, where his
language skills became known...."

I will add the 5985 kHz frequency to both of my receivers.
