Title: 4.887MHz Chinese "chanters" weird!
Post by: Looking-Glass on December 14, 2016, 0011 UTC
Came across two frequencies in the past couple of nights with two Chinese ladies chanting over and over, it's a recorded loop.  One lady keeps saying "zhoo zhoo zhoo" and the other, which is higher pitched voice has an echo on her voice and chants two or three words over and over.  Both are in Mandarin language.  Very weird, I wonder what they are and their purpose?  The 6.493MHz signal was being jammed last night but the women were still audible.

6.493MHz  USB  0900-0918z 5X7 report.  Terminated at 0918z, not sure how long they were on prior.

4.887MHz  USB Seemingly 24 hours?  Same team of two ladies as above. Between 5X5 and 5X9 report.

5.170MHz  USB  1854z but on for hours.  Chinese lady just talking non stop, loop recording, it just goes on and on for hours.

Very interesting! Reminds me of the Cuban Babbler numbers station.

I can't speak to the other two freqs, but 5170 kHz is probably Taiwanese weather station CWB.  You will find it paired with 8117 kHz.  Female voice, looped information.

Thanks Token, you are correct, same broadcast is also heard on 8.117MHz USB, thanks for that.

The two Chinese female chanters were on 4.887MHz USB for hours last night up to 5X9 report.  Not heard on their other frequency of 6.493MHz. Same format, loop recording.

The two ladies "Chinese Chanters" are still going hard at it on 4.887MHz USB, seems to be 24 hours, mystery this one.

Maybe it's a Chinese government station "reserving" a frequency?  However, saying this, I have heard no other traffic other than the two ladies chanting... ???

Your 6493 kHz USB and 4887 kHz USB signals were probably the Chinese Robot, also called VC01.  They would have also been active on 6829 kHz LSB and 6209 kHz LSB.  This set of 4 frequencies has been in use since early Dec, 2016, and is due to change right about now.

Compare what you heard to one of my recordings here:

Keep in mind there are two speed versions of this station (actually, I believe it is between 4 and 8 stations in a network), one is very fast, the other slightly slower.

Looked for 4.887MHz last night and you are right, it has vanished so be interesting to see where it pops up next...maybe the ladies are taking a break from all that chanting too... ::)

Your recording is exactly what I am hearing, mystery solved... ;D

Heard them chanting away on 8.148MHz at 0920z not real strong but audible last night.  Have noted your other frequencies and will check them out. Thanks. ;D
