0508Z 2/9/17 1040KHz WHO Des Moines Ia
Iowa v Minnesota basketball at Minneapolis, coming in on a Buick car radio tooling down the highway, 335.40 nmi from the transmitter. Not too shabby a signal.

I used to do a lot of traveling in the Midwest. It's amazing how far those MW blowtorches in the Midwest can propagate even during the daytime this time of year especially when you're on the interstates away from power lines. You can hear WLW out of Cincy from St. Louis to nearly Pittsburgh this time of year on a good day.

Oh yeah, I can get 700 right now on the sdr or a portable in sw Indiana, used to listen to them around dusk in Omaha and they'd be strong for most of the night. KAAY was also always strong in Omaha and here as well in the evenings.
