Title: OK in FL
Post by: BeaconBuff on August 30, 2010, 0532 UTC
Aug. 29, 0730 UTC (0330 local DST) Location South-Central FL. OK @ +/- 3449 kHz in and out of the noise, about S7 on peaks, to barely audible on fades but even then could be discerned 80% of the time. RX: Grundig G6 Aviator, using only its built-in whip antenna, and indoors to boot! Just whipped it out for a quick scan and wasn't really expecting to hear anything beacon-wise, so I'm quite impressed.

P.S. I'd be curious to know some specs of this beacon, like antenna type & power output.

It's nice when they come in strong :)

In the winter, I can sometimes have one of the desert beacons budge the "needle" as I lie in bed with the E5 with just the whip.

Peace!

Yeah! And it's one thing to catch it with longwire & fancy rx but another level of satisfaction altogether to snag it on a portable with only the whip. Sweet! :)
