What a mess, a dangerous mess too for the guys who will end up taking that apart. Hmmm, maybe they could cut sections or chunks out and sell it as souvenirs?

Usually with towers that far gone, the only recourse is controlled demolition.  Even once a tower is on the ground, it can still be dangerous because sections of it are under spring tension.

The diagram accompanying the article was very cool. Rhombics everywhere. I was always fascinated with that antenna. Never built one, though....

That's what I was thinking, way cool if they really were using rhombics, so 1940s of them. I guess the closest thing I've run to one is the t2fd, aka squashed rhombic. There should be more rhombics on the air and in the hands of listeners. Who doesn't have a few telephone poles laying around in their back yard?
