Is that the old Farmers From Holland transmitter?

The Farmers from Holland used the same kind of transmitter. But they modulated their transmitter with a selfmade external modulator.
In that way their power was about 800 watt nom. or even more to modulate! With external modulator the bandwith becomes extremely wide. Authorities don't like that at all. The original SK 050, like this one, the max. carrier power is around 700/750 watt.
You can modulate than internal around 350 watt nom. According to R&S, the transmitter is original 500 watt max, but in practice half much more.

Many dutch pirate stations use the smaller SK010. With external modulator this transmitter can modulate around 130 watt nom., with a brilliant modulation. There was also the R&S SK080 They were rare and had  a "external" modulater itself. The SK080 could modulate min. around 800 watt nom. but is very heavy and BIG.

The SK family was in used by the German Army during 60's and beginning 70's. During the 80's and 90's this army surplus was sold to handlers.
It was in the past rather simple to buy such a gear in Germany and Holland. Later became the SK1 (1 kW max carrier power AM, + USB and LSB ) popular. But there mintage was much much less. R&S transmitters have the quality of a "mercedes" car.
Nowadays also the Telefunken S2525 is in use among dutch pirates. It is seen as the follow up of the R&S SK transmitters. Also this transmitter is build in much lower figures. Newer army-stuff has a narrow modulation-part and is not suitable for AM modulation broadcast.

I'd sure like to have one of those Rohde & Schwarzes..

But I sure wouldn't want to pay the freight from Europe...
