Title: Captain Beefheart
Post by: Fansome on December 18, 2010, 0000 UTC
Don Van Vliet, a.k.a. Captain Beefheart, one of the most fiercely avant-garde musicians of the 20th century, passed away Friday at the age of 69 due to complications from multiple sclerosis. Beefheart made a career out of being impossible to categorize, making music that sounded like nothing else around..

I'm beginning to suspect the rumors about the Reaper are true.  Somehow you knew about this before it happened.

I saw him once at the University of New Mexico Student Union waaaay back when. He was one of a kind.

Oddly enough, there's pictures of this concert on the web somewhere.

The world is just a little less weird with him gone.

I hope you're still "booglarizing" , Don...

I saw him with Zappa and George Duke in late spring of '75. He made those two seem normal. RIP Cap'n.

You should read the Wikipedia entry about him, and the techniques that he used to control his band. Very interesting; reminds me of a certain pirate.
