Title: Radio Free Asia via Kuwait transmitters
Post by: East Troy Don on April 03, 2018, 2118 UTC
Well, apparently the new updated Al Kabd transmitters in Kuwait are doing their job.   Received Radio Free Asia  on 9745 KHZ @ 20:36 UTC  3 April 2018 (15:36 DST local 3 April 2018).  Monitored until QRT@ 21:00 UTC. Bells introducing heavy percussion music, Shofar alert at 20:38 then strange blend of Asian/Arabic sounding music until QRT.  Language unknown as no one ever spoke, just music.  SINPO: 3-3-2-3-3

Judging from the description and the fact that this was a Mandarin language broadcast aimed at China, I'm guessing that you copied China's jamming transmission that's known as the Firedrake. It's a very percussive and loud piece of music. RFA should be mostly talk, but even if it were featuring music, there would be station ID and contact information given verbally at sign off.

Thanks, MDK2.  I initially gave FIREDRAKE a thought but I'd never copied them before and I searched all avenues and couldn't locate them ever on 9745.  Thanks again for the info.

You're very welcome. I think it's a new frequency too. I need to remember to look for it, as it's one of the odder things on HF and I like it for that reason.
