July has not been a good month, some nights/early mornings the band has been very poor with distances above 1,500kms hard to achieve. On odd occasions there have been some good openings, some deep fade downs have been noted, so sitting on particular frequencies for four or five minutes often pays a result:
1537z HK 310KHz Hokitika, New Zealand 529 report for 2,081kms

Pinto Vortando...I wish they were, only got the Icom up and running the other day, NDB band has been poor last three days with little over 1,500kms. I made a comparison yesterday by tuning the "local" beacons I hear during the day on the FT-2000D.
The little Icom pulls its weight with the same beacons heard around the same strength, maybe half an 'S' point at the most with the weaker ones heard on the FT-2000D, overall I am happy with it.
Found crappy audio on MW band in AM mode with the Noise Blanker switched in, take the NB off and AM stations audio 100%.
Radio sounds a lot better through the SP-8 Yaesu external speaker with its selectable filters too.
Crunch time for the Icom will come when the Western Australia, Northern Territory and New Zealand (over 2,000kms plus distance) beacons come in as I will switch across to the Icom from the big Yaesu for a comparison. :D
