Transmitting CW Channel Marker M on 7039.4 KHZ @ 00:58 UTC  26 July 18 (19:58 CDT local 25 July 18) - Former Soviet (now defunct) Naval base.

Gudym (also known as Anadyr-1 or Magadan-11) was both a secret Soviet military base and a military town, located in the Chukotka Peninsula in Russia’s Far East. Nowadays it’s a derelict shell of abandoned buildings.

-
Magadan RUS is not located in the Chukotka Peninsula

-
Magadan, not Magadan Oblast.   On the Northern coast of Sea of Okhotsk east of Arman and west of Ola, not the peninsula.

 Thanks for the clarification.

"Nagayevo was an urban type settlement on the shore of Nagayev Bay, Sea of Okhotsk, in what became present day Magadan Oblast in the Russian Far East. Presently Nagayevo is a micro district in and the port area of Magadan, Russian Far East, in the administrative centre of Magadan Oblast."

In the Newsletter 32 of the N&O column / Spooks newsletter (aka NSNL) of 24 Dec 2000; “M” Magadan (RUS) is listed in a “Historic _now defunc_ stations” table on 8682.0kHz.

The Newsletter 34 of 3 Mar 2001 has the report that “M re-appeared. M transmitted from Magadan in the past and probably still does…”

But in the Newsletter 35 of 01 Apr 2001 it’s remarked: “…supposedly from the home of 'M', Magadan.”
 ----------------------------------
However the HFU wiki has a table citing from NSNL 32 that "a Russian naval radio operator...confirmed...channel markers (are) mostly used by the navy" which by inference suggests this:
 M    RTS    Magadan, RUS

 ...to be continued*

Looks like old Winnie was right!
-
But perhaps there is a key. That key is Russian national interest.

Anyway, not hard to keep remote hf sites going, barring theft/vandalism.
-
				Magadan is GMT + 11

*this inference now part of the IARU Region 1 Intruders reports:
 "July 29th  2018

 beacon “M” – “RTS” - Magadan"
