Title: "V" beacon Khiva.
Post by: Looking-Glass on August 19, 2018, 1249 UTC
Came across a seldom heard beacon/channel marker and old "friend" from the former days of the USSR but retained by Uzbekistan Navy since independence:

1425z  5.590MHz  CW  "V"  Uzebekistan Naval Station at Khiva, Uzbekistan, between 419 and 539 report with heavy fade downs, first time heard on this frequency.

This beacon seldom shares the more well known and regular beacon/channel marker frequencies of the Russian Federation, a bit of a free spirit Khiva is. ;D

 Uzbekistan Navy???

More like two Gurza-class gunboats (crew of 6) built for the Uzbek Frontier Service and stationed in Termez.

Military branches as per the CIA: Army, Air and Air Defense Forces, National Guard

Probably like Mongolia, which has an international shipping register (flag of convenience) but has no seaport... 8)

At least Uzbekistan has some rather large lakes which may be patrolled as they cross borders?  Shades of classic McHales Navy... ;D
