Title: Japanese DGPS system closes
Post by: ChrisSmolinski on April 03, 2019, 1544 UTC
<USA> We're going to close our DGPS stations over the next three years
<Japan> Hold my beer (or is that saki?)

From the dgpslist:

Hi All,

For some strange reason the Japanese have now closed their entire DGPS system down.

The last two editions of the Admiralty Weekly Notices showed that the closure information
had come from the Japanese Hydrographic Office, but I can't find any information about
why this has happened.

I would have thought with a coastline as long and rugged as Japan's such a system
would have been a great asset.

There were 27 beacons in all:

Daio Saki
Gesashi
Kushiro Saki
Sakata
Soya Misaki Lt
Hekura Shima
Inubo Saki Lt
Muroto Saki
Wakamiya Shima Lt
Shiriya Saki
Hachijo Shima Lt
Ose Saki
Hamada Ko
Abashiri
Matsumae
Ken Saki
Toi Misaki
Shakotan Misaki
Tanga
Kinkasan To
Miyako Shima
Nagoya
Seto
E Saki
Nakano Shima
Urayasu
Ohama

73 for now, Alan.
