Title: What does [non] mean?
Post by: Swede P on October 17, 2011, 1918 UTC
I have been listening to Glenn Hauser for some time on WBCQ. At the beginning of the programme, he lists the countries whose broadcasts are to be discussed. Often he will say "non" right after the name of a particular country.

It seems like a small little detail, but it has been bothering me that I cannot make any sense of it. I am certain one of you out there knows.

Re: WBCQ 15420 report updated: Scare

Paul,

It`s South Carolina [NON], which means it originates there but is not
transmitted from there.

Decrypting Hauspeak is best done with a carradio.

A car radio? You will have to explain that to me some time. I am sure there is a great story behind this.

"Carradio" is just one of those Hauserisms - he uses it a lot in MW signal reports.  I think it means "Drove away from town to escape the RFI and heard the following while sitting in the car..."

Not a bad technique.  During the 1980s I did a lot of driving around the US.  Heard a lot of MW DX on ordinary carradios.  Non-directional MW antennas can be interesting.  ;>

And remember to raise your broomstick in salute next time you hear Arnie Coro on RHC.   ;D
