Title: Geiger Counters / Radiation Detectors
Post by: ChrisSmolinski on August 24, 2019, 1831 UTC
As some may know, I also make and sell geiger counter based radiation detectors that plug into your computer, for continuous logging of radiation readings:

Discounts available for HFU members, contact me via email or a private message here if interested. Or maybe you have some radio related gear for a swap  ;D

What is the expected lifetime of the sensor if you have one of these running 24/7?  Will the geiger tube eventually wear out?  If so, are replacement sensors available?

In theory the tubes have an infinite lifetime, the gas used in modern geiger tubes recombines after each event. There's some out there in operation since 2002 or so. They use standard LND 712 and 7317 tubes.
