HOPEY is the last one in the Twin Cities. Catch PPI while you can on 400 kHz.
MnDOT Aeronautics owns, operates, and maintains the HOPEY (PPI) NDB and LOM as part of a system of installations serving the aviation public navigational needs. State-owned installations are in addition to the network provided by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
HOPEY NDB serves; St. Paul Downtown airport (STP) with an NDB approach to Runway 31, Lake Elmo airport (21D) with an NDB approach to Runway 4, and the South St. Paul airport (SGS) with an NDB-B Circling approach. Decommissioning will cause the cancellation of all NDB Approaches MnDOT will be requesting a new RNAV approach for 21D Runway 4. SGS will continue to have RNAV-B SGS, and the STP airport needs will be reviewed if a replacement approach is needed.
MnDOT Aeronautics is considering decommissioning of the system because the lease for the land on which HOPEY is located, is due to expire and the landowner is not willing to renew. Additionally, NDB approaches are no longer being supported by the FAA and will all be removed from the national airspace system in the coming years. NDB approaches are no longer required on any flight test for certification of a pilot. MnDOT Aeronautics will experience cost savings as a result of this proposed decommissioning enabling investment in modernization of other critical equipment used by all airmen in the modern day national airspace system.

PPI was off the air for a few weeks, but just came back on a couple of days ago. I got my log for the season.

For some reason some of the DGPS beacons that were supposed to be shut down by end of FY2019 are still on the air. It will be interesting to see when they finally get switched off.
