Title: 6.950 (Spanish) 6950 kHz
Post by: Matt285 on November 01, 2019, 2058 UTC
I've noticed a fair amount of Spanish speaking chatter on 6.950. Anyone know what it is? Thanks

We call them peskies as a shorthand for pescadores or fishermen, since it used to be thought that is what they all were. Most of them are outbanders much like you find on 11 meters and elsewhere, although some are actually fishermen  :)

I figured as much. I have just noticed them a lot lately. I posted here because of the typically historic use of this frequency. Hopefully stations are able to use 6.925,6.930 and 6.555 etc for tonight's broadcasts.

The peskies are very common on the 43 meter band, sometimes they do cause QRM to the pirates.

p.s. we tend to use kHz not MHz here on the HFU ;)
