Title: June 21 BBC Special Antarctic Mid Winter Broadcast Frequencies
Post by: Ct Yankee on June 16, 2020, 2331 UTC
This Sunday (June 21) at 2130 utc the BBC will broadcast their annual half hour homespun program to researchers in Antartica.  Over the years I have heard "Let the Sunshine in", a chorus of "Happy Birthday" by children, heartfelt greetings from parents of researchers, and "Here Comes the Sun" in celebration of the winter solstice.

These paragraphs below appeared in the SWLing blog.  I had moderate success with 7360 for test broadcast on June 14.

"2020 Midwinter Broadcast Frequencies

The BBC Antarctica winter solstice broadcast will be on June 21, 2020 at 2130-2200 UTC.

Many thanks to SWLing Post contributor, Troy Riedel, who shares the frequencies the BBC plan to use.  Note that, in the past, the BBC has sometimes only broadcast on three of the four announced frequencies:

5790 kHz Woofferton
6170 kHz Ascension
7360 kHz Woofferton
9580 kHz Ascension
Recording the Midwinter Broadcast has become an SWLing Post community tradition!"

Note: 9580 was a former strong signal from BBC to North America.

These are the four frequencies that BBC used on the June 14'th test. All four frequencies were registered for the 14'th with HFCC...on the 16'th.

I've got it on 9580 but very weak.  Can make out voices but no intelligible copy.

I heard it tonight on 7360 kHz, and it was very good signal.
My XHDATA D-808 was receiving it very well with the long wire antenna.
