I am thinking buying a SDR, but wondering, if my iPad could run with a SDR.
It is an old iPad about 10 year old. But it still works fine on most apps.
Failing that, I have an IMac OSX 10.11.
If none of them works with SDR, does it mean that I must buy a new PC too?
I have an old Android pad too, but that is about the same age as the Macs.

iPad? Not directly but you could via a web browser.
Why not get a KiwiSDR? It does everything itself, no special software to run. You put it on your network, then you can use it from your computer, iPad, whatever, in a web browser.

KiWi SDR sounds great, but now it is hard to find, and the price seems too high.
Are they still in production and being marketed?
What is the data rate? Recently 16bit SDR RX888 seems storming the SDR market.

Yes, still sold. They're in such high demand, they are hard to find, and production constrained. I understand a new batch is being made now.
It's quite powerful for the price, it has 4 independent receivers (8 if audio only with no waterfalls). I have two amongst my SDRs and use them frequently, in addition to sharing them online for others to use:

That's a brand new radio. Lots of chatter, I have not yet seen many hands on reports of performance. What's the price?

I think it goes between $130 - $180. That's quite reasonable I would have thought.

The RX-666 and RX-888 are similar. Both are based on the BBRF103 open-source design. The RX-888 adds an integrated LNA and is around $200 from China via eBay or similar.
For HF and below, both appears to use the LTC2208.... or a clone.... or a salvage chip? The LTC2208 is 15 years old at this point, but AFAIK, it still is not a cheap IC to source new. Up to 32MHz sampling, with up to 28.8MHz alias-free sampling. USB 3.0 is required for such high sample rates.
BTW, above HF they use a common R820T2, but apparently with up to 8MHz sampling currently possible.
