Copying a beacon on 4094.00 Khz send the letter X. I have heard it day & night in the southwest US. Has anyone else copied this beacon?
-
Freq right this minute (1540 UTC, July 2, 2012) is 4094.5.
I assume because of the times I can hear it that it is in the Mojave Desert area someplace, maybe Death Valley / Owens Valley / High Desert area, something like that.

Thanks T, I was just wondering if anybody else was copying this beacon.

That must be a new one. I haven't heard it or even heard of it before. We're in the noisy season now but I'll give a listen.

That's one of the old Mojave Beacon frequencies. It always amazed me how well that frequency worked for them. I could hear them there from about an hour before sunset until the sun went down out there just about any time I tuned in.
I was about 2300 miles from them, all land. That's a long way for a pw beacon to propagate over dirt.

Copying the X beacon right now, 11:00 P.M. PST - 07:00 GMT. Seems to be another beacon on the same frequency. Cannot tell if it is a single or double dash.

This beacon, "X", is still hammering along on 4094.5 kHz. Freq seems very stable and the X's are sent about every 7 seconds or so. Has anyone stepped up with any infromation about this one?

It is not in the central Inyo County region, as it is not a daytime, short-skip audible beacon, unlike some of the 4096/7 kHz cluster were, but it is strong at night here in the northern Mojave Desert. -v-
