Very good reception, about 315 miles from me.

Something to try in the fall and winter: See if you can hear Cuban music rising up behind KFI. I've heard Radio Rebelde several times behind KFI on 640 kHz from up here near Seattle.
I'm about ~1,000 miles from the KFI transmitter in La Mirada, California. I remember driving by the former antenna tower as a young SoCal kid in the 1970s and early '80s. That tower was hit by an airplane in a fatal crash in 2004; the first replacement collapsed again during construction in 2008.

Thanks for the Radio Rebelde tip. I'm back to CT in three weeks. I could be back in the Bay for the winter, there are a lot of moving parts right now. I would love to try to DX out here in January and February. I got up at 1000 utc yesterday and tried to do some dxing, maybe an unusual Asian SW or Alaskan MW......no luck :-\.

CY, are you doing all your DX'ing with the 880 while you're in sunny Cal ?

Nice catch from Seattle.

Yep, that's still my longest catch from here. I only use an indoor loop, so no fancy outdoor MW antennas. So far, the outdoor MLA-30+ antenna I have has only produced noise for me on MW.

Doing all with 880 and its accessory wire (20-25 feet?), all set indoors. I love the 880, planning on trying it on Amtrak on cross country rail to get back East at the end of month. Used a 600 on a train trip abroad once with good success.

Thats a loooooooooooong train ride !

3.5 days IF I make my 2 connections 🤞. I figure a once in a lifetime excursion, I hear the Rocky Mountain states are remarkable by train. No wifi between Oakland and Chicago.
