Title: X-FM 6285 AM 0220 UTC 8 Aug 2021
Post by: oly1959 on August 08, 2021, 0226 UTC
Hello Redhat. Just got home from being with the grand daughter. So much fun! Catching XFM via the Utah Yellow SDR at 0220 with Redhat at the helm talking about the QSL policy at the Mighty X. Signal is a S7 with peaks to 9 with lots of static crashes and audio sounding pretty good amid the crashes. Playing the heavy stuff at 0223. ID at 0229. Thanks RH for the show this evening! How about a tune from Hendrix of you choosing? Thanks for playing "Hey Joe" by Hendrix at 0248!
Also catching XFM on the Maui Kiwi SDR with a S7 with peaks to 9 and some fading and very little storm static. :) Thanks again Redhat!

SINPO=23322, with some QRM from another station (broadcast?) and fluttery fading.

228- "Make It Stop" by Rise Against.
229- Recorded OM ID.
230- "H" by Tool.

SINPO=24333, better signal now.
251- "Behind Blue Eyes" by Limp Bizkit.
255- "Godzilla" by Blue Öyster Cult.
259- Red Hat comments on the 1977 album for the last tune. Time check. Hendrix by request...haven't heard that one for awhile. Talk of tunes to come. Provides gmail address. Kind of in a weird mood night and want to hear things that sound familiar.
304- "Crockett's Theme" by Jan Hammer (an obscure and classic 80s TV anthem...nice pick Red Hat).
308- "Tranz" by Gorillaz.
311- "We Are Between" by Modest Mouse.
314- Red Hat IDs last song as a request from Chris Lobdell. A few shoutouts. Time check. RH drinking beer (as it's nasty out there) with water too, to stay hydrated. Talks about a walk. Comments on HFU postings. Thanks for the shoutout! Email address provided. Hot off the presses...Time check.
321- "New Invention" by I DON'T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME.

343- Recorded OM ID.
343- "Still Counting" by Volbeat.

Thanks as always, Red Hat (note MY red fez, in the Molvanian tradition)....Really great tunes!

0320 a bit of a high noise floor tonight, signal is SIO 211 at this point. Some peaks but lots of static crashes tonight along with the usual issue of this signal's range relative to my QTH (I'm sure it would overwhelm the noise floor if I were somewhere else).
0322 signal's gained some strength, SIO 322 now.

NEXT DAY EDIT.... I did record the whole show on my SDR. Video of opening interval and station ID:

03:24 UTC - Weak but readable with fading in and out. Going through a unsettled and active geomagnetic magnetic field period. I guess no C-QUAM for me tonight. XMF transmissions are generally in C-QUAM (AM stereo);
04:08 UTC - Signal is fading out rapidly. Weak and unreadable at this time;
04:53 UTC - I can still see the carrier on the spectrum display but still weak and unreadable.

Had to cap this via an SDR recording.  Good S7 signal and audio from 0202 s/on with the usual rollout mx.  Peaked up around S9 at 0330 at which point the strength did a slide down to the mud.

Thanks for the show, rh; enjoying it now!

Conditions were kinda poor that night, and we were having transmitter issues.  In light of this, feel free to check out the link to an aircheck of the show.

This is a late report from the northern Mojave Desert: During my nearly daily 1 mile walk out into the nearby desert whereby I often put on a 200 mW ~6283 transmitter with a high-quality AM sound (to a Coby MP3 player), when I got about 1/8 mile from the QTH I noted an "unusual" fading hetrodyning signal on my own little signal via my Sony ICF-7600D portable rx. with its whip ant.

At about 1/2 mile out, I slid the VFO up higher and had fine audio and copy (good audio too!) from XFM.  This was the first and only evening I have ever heard this station. Some erratic fading sometimes but overall quite listenable within the strong QRN.

Upon returning to the radio-room and QTH, I shut-off the small AM xmtr. and listened for a bit more time - past 0320z or so.  Nice to hear and thanks!  Keep up the AMing like some other stations do and the former KMUD did...
