The pulses are 130 msec in length and 6 seconds apart.
Multiple (delayed) transmissions are observed on some frequencies, with different signal strengths, suggesting multiple transmitter sites.
-
I'm listening to the one on 18050 atm. Not strong but perfectly copyable on the west coast of Canada.
-
I have all of them here in Kentucky except:
8275 and 12025 (other QRM)
18050, 22050 and 24050 (may mean I am in the skip zone from the transmitter on these frequencies).
Given how strong the 6 and 7 MHz signals are here in the daytime, I'd say eastern North America.
-
Chris posted some more frequencies. I have all of them up to 17 MHz. I must be in the skip zone for the ones on higher frequencies.
-
on the dashers, I thought I was hearing something local as these two were strong for awhile.
15070.00 dasher weak now at 0134z 12/06/12
15558.50 dasher fairly strong at 0134z
have been hearing them for a couple of days when I have time to listen which is not
very often these days.

It's 1445z 6 Dec and... they're back on the air.

I managed to receive some of this between 1534 and 1610 today (6 Dec 2012) on the following freqs:
9.225 (heard over/under somebody else's RYRY 50/200 FSK stream)
10.050
10.575
11.025
11.150

I had no idea there were so many dasher/ditter beacons out there. Looking at the freqs I have doubts that they are pirates - the transmissions are all over the place from 6 - 24 mhz, and on nice "round" freqs ending in 0 or 5 khz.
"Official" propagation beacons, perhaps? ...maybe our taxpayer money paid for beacons?!? COOL!
-
This particular set seems to be one network, presumably run by a .gov agency. It appears to have shut down today around 1600z. We'll have to see when/if it returns.
-
This is not the first time we have seen similar ditters/dashers on multiple frequencies. Back in April of this year there was several days of similar ditters, but with shorter pulses (about half the length) and shorter pauses between pulses (3 seconds). The relationship of half the pulse width and half the pause is interesting to me and might tie the “then” and “now” signals together.
Video of one frequency here:

I think at that time it was on 25+ frequencies at the same time. I am at work right now but will look in the log after I get home and see if any of the freqs are the same as this set.
In the discussion then about that specific signal the possibility of multiple transmit sites was also brought up. There was good argument to support multiple sites, but the phenomena could also be explained by a single site and multipath. The multipath argument was less strong because of the delay between the pulses, the longer of the two paths would have had to be over 1500 km longer (on average, there was some variation if I remember right) than the short path, not impossible at all but also not likely if the source is on the same continent as the listener. The variation in timing on the second pulse was one of the arguments for multipath.

I just happened to stumble on one of these last night (Dec. 6 ~0400Z) while playing with my fairly new Softrock Ensemble II SDR receiver. It was on 4575 kHz. It may be a part of this network of ditters, too. I don't hear it right now (Dec 7 ~ 0100Z). I'll listan again later.

a few beeps heard on 9225 at 1532z 7Dec than gone
update: back at 1539z
Heard at this hour (1500z)in parallel on freqs 9050 thru 11300 except 10450kHz
-
I noticed them re-appearing at the same time. They came back on and off a few times during the few minutes before 1539z, perhaps they were bringing the network up?
I've found several more frequencies, and updated the list at http://www.hfunderpants.com/?p=1155

Heard at this hour (1600z) in parallel on freqs 8275 thru 11300 except 10450 & 10900kHz
update: Heard on 8825, nothing on 8775 nor 8900
1625z in parallel on freqs 13250 thru 15100
